The future site of Pretoria originated alongside the Apies River in 1837 when the first Voortrekkers settled here. The town of Pretoria was laid out on the farm Elandspoort in 1854. Pretoria continued to grow over the years and after the Anglo-Boer War, it became the administrative capital of the Union of South Africa in 1910. The City of Pretoria, is the Administrative Capital of South Africa and is situated to the north of Johannesburg. This graceful and historical city is home to many of the embassies, consulates and official buildings as well as the imposing Union Buildings. Pretoria is renowned for its stately city centre, its tranquil parks and gardens, the purple flowers of the Jacaranda trees and its many recreational and leisure activities.
