The Channel One Cup is an annual pre-season friendly club football competition, organized by Russian television's Channel One and Roman Abramovich's foundation National Football Academy. The participants are champions and runners up of Russia, Ukraine and Israel. The cup rules state that at least half of the prize money won by the clubs must be later spent on youth football development.
The tournament was founded in 2006 and takes place in Israel in January due to good weather and a wide supporter base for Russian and Ukrainian clubs formed by Jewish immigrants from former Soviet Union. The historical enmity of Ukrainian and Russian people and their clubs has led to high on-field intensity and fan interest despite being a pre-season tournament.
