The Commonwealth of Independent States Cup (CIS Cup) is a tournament for football clubs which was set up after the split of the Soviet Union. It is open to all the national champions of the successor states of the Union.
Among tournament notables, Ukraine initially boycotted the 1st 2 competitions. Since there are 15 champions annually from the USSR successor states, Russia's national youth squad usually partakes in the tournament as the 16th team; in 2007, that place was taken by Serbian team OFK Beograd. In recent years, top teams from Russia and Ukraine have been hesitant to send their 1st teams to play on the artificial turf of the Olympiyskyi Sport Complex, resulting in decreased popularity of the tournament.
