The Recopa Sudamericana is a continental football competition held annually for the South American club winners of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana, organized by the CONfederaci├│n SudaMEricana de F├║tBOL (CONMEBOL/CSF). Begun in 1989, it has changed formats and names frequently. The Recopa is considered to be the South American equivalent to the UEFA Super Cup as it is an annual 2-legged football series between the reigning champions of the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. Since the Recopa takes place in August, it's disputed between the champions of the previous year's aforementioned competitions. Because of this, some count the year of the championship by the qualification year rather than that of the competition itself.
