The All-Africa Games (aka African Games or Pan African Games) is a regional multi-sport event (including football) held every 4 years for African nations, organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA). 8 nations qualify for the football tournament and are grouped into 2 groups of 4. The 1st games were held in 1965 in Brazzaville, Congo. The International Olympic Committee granted official recognition as a continental multi-sport event, along with the Pan American Games and Asian Games. The football tournament was held at every edition of All-Africa Games since 1965. The women's competition was only added in 2003.
