The CONCACAF Gold Cup (aka Copa Oro in Spanish) is the top men's national football competition in the region of North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The tournament is usually held in the USA due to the many excellent stadiums and large immigrant fanbase. Before 1963, there were 2 separate competitions, the CCCF Championship & NAFC Championship, for the 2 separate confederations. It began in 1963 as the CONCACAF Championship, changing to CONCACAF Gold Cup in 1990. In 2007 CONCACAF stopped inviting guest nations. Since 2015, the winners of 2 successive Gold Cups face each other in a playoff to determine the CONCACAF entrant to the Confederations Cup.
