The Copa América is a continental football competition held every 4 years for South American nations, organized by the CONfederación SudaMEricana de FútBOL (CONMEBOL/CSF). Starting in 1916, it is the oldest international tournament in the world. Usually 2 CONCACAF teams (USA & Mexico) get an invitation to participate and complete the 12 team field. As CONMEBOL only has the 10 members there is no qualification tournament for them or their invitees. In 1984, they adopted a rotational policy for hosting the tournament amongst the 10 members. The 1st rotation was completed in 2007 with Venezuela as hosts. Copa América was normally held every 2 years until 2007, when CONMEBOL decided it would be held every 4 years like the European Championship.
