The FIFA Confederations Cup is a international football competition held every 4 years for the 6 FIFA confederation champions, the last World Cup champion and future World Cup host national teams, organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). It was organized by and held in Saudi Arabia and called the King Fahd Cup, contested in 1992 and 1995 by the Saudi national side and some continental champions. In 1997, FIFA took over the organization of the tournament, named it the FIFA Confederations Cup and staged the competition every 2 years. From 2005, the tournament is held every 4 years and 1 year prior to each World Cup in the host country. This tournament is a pre-hosting dress rehearsal or "Mini World Cup" of sorts.
