The Mediterranean Games (aka Mediterranean Olympics) are a regional multi-sport event (including football) held every 4 years for nations surrounding the Mediterranean Sea in Africa, Asia & Europe, organized by the International Committee for the Mediterranean Games (ICMG).
The Games were inaugurated on October 1951, in Alexandria, Egypt. Athens is the permanent seat of the ICMG as a tribute to Greece, marking out its leading role in the Olympic tradition. The only country bordering the Mediterranean Sea which does not participate is Israel.
