The Deoksu-gung Palace was built during the mid-fifteenth century, the architecture of the buildings inside are heavily influenced with Western designs. It was used as a temporary royal residence by the King after Japan's 1598 invasion ended.

Gyeongbokgung Palace was built in 1395 as a tribute to the permanent happiness and prosperity of Korea's kings, their children and the people. It was burnt down like much of Seoul during the Japanese invasion of 1592, and was rebuilt in 1865.
