Founded in 1909, Tel Aviv was the first modern Jewish city built in Israel & is the country’s economic & cultural center. A beautiful beach city, the beachfront of Tel Aviv has 6 miles of fine sand along its shore & a magnificent wide promenade that runs from the port leisure area in north Tel Aviv to the old quarter of Jaffa, a historic port-town, now a popular dining & leisure district. The city is smaller in area than Haifa or Jerusalem, but almost half of Israel live in the metropolitan area.
