The precursors of the tournament were the Baltic League (1990-94), the Livonia Cup (2003-5) and the Baltic Champions Cup (2006). .Begun in 2007, the Baltic League consists of the top 4 clubs from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. All segments of the tournament, including the final, are played as home-and-away legs, giving each club's fans a chance to see their clubs play locally in every round of the tournament.
