The Rapids Charity Shield is a pre-season Major League Soccer game between host Colorado Rapids and an invited club. The model for the event is based upon the “Charity or Community Shield” matches in England, where they are a long-standing tradition. Proceeds from the event benefit local charities of the club.
The inaugural edition of the Rapids Charity Shield was played on March 19, 2010 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park by the Colorado Rapids and Seattle Sounders.
